Bandcamp

So this is my routine, creating new tunes, breathing life into them. At last, but not least, bandcamp is always on my list of spreading my song around the globe.

The Fly On The Wall Routine

woensdag 11 april 2018

Sent away to the shops!

Yep! As you can see, officially 9 may 2018. AMAdea, who handles the distribution, notes:
"It takes from 3 weeks minimum, to 7 weeks maximum to get it up and selling, once you've given us ALL the info we need. (Usually 4 weeks) Once we send it to them, it's out of our hands and they do what they can to get it imported and active in their service. We push them to get it added as soon as possible, and they always do it as soon as they can."

Proof. Can I get a witness?

I'm glad. At first I was worried that something wasn't right. OMG western problems.

Done it again. Worked like a dog. I've finally decided to send my fresh babies away. Why? Because I like them too much!
Yes, I've got a good, strong feeling about these songs. More than ever I took special care to every aspect of the production process (inspiration, songwriting, playing, recording, mixing, mastering).
I think these tunes are a upbeat, sinister, melancholic, desperate but overall fun and groovy bunch, just like me. Ok, sometimes.

After a long, long ping-pong process (the details) of mixing and mastering that is. That was a very intense 3 months period, but I'm glad I didn't overrush things. These songs needed some breathing and I needed some distance from them once in a while. But now it's time I let you enjoy my new grooves.

Well on the distribution side, that will be taken care of by AMAdea (after approval) and it will take about 3 or 4 weeks to hear the album on Spotify and the like. There are so many streaming sites today, so take your pick.

I'll send a few free download links (Bandcamp) to a few of my supporters too, so maybe a few reviews will come up before the official release in may.
Watch this site for more details, news about the design, covers, promo and tell me..what about a title and.... Soon, stay stuned. Promo coming at ya!

Show us your new work!

Voila!
It has just been confirmed that the album is in the distribution process. It takes approximately 4 weeks to appear online, but keep a close watch, some online services are very quick. now i'm gonna take a breeeeeaaak.

Proof! Distribution date confirmed
No pressure. Fingers crossed, legs spread. In the meantime I'll keep you updated if there's any change and as I'm working on some visuals, that tasty promo is on its way too. So now you know.
Now let's see where you have to look at this year and the rest of your life.

The artwork.

The original "selfie" pictures have been chosen from some amateurish mobile phone footage, filmed in the bathroom by yours truly. No. 3 became my ultimate frontcover as I liked the welcome sign in my sort of "I invite you all" atitude and the mirrored spotlight above the "starstrucked" me.

1.Here
2.Here!

 3.Here....

Here's the original for the back cover with mirror reflection:

Spotlights!

On the net you can find all kind of photo design editors.
I especially liked the paint department from Lunapic. All kind of echoes of Van Gogh and Kadinsky art that fitted well. Here are a few choices, eyes open or eyes closed:

Close my eyes...
(Starry starry night......) Sagitario!

The title.

I know it's a bit pretentious...to say Sagittarius, so it became

                                                       Sagitario

It's spanish- which sounds so cool- for  (english), boogschutter (dutch). It happens to be my sign. I guess you'll hear a few characteristics of those on the new album. Playful sounding and with the extra bonus of the word siguitario in it. I'll explain in a later blog all bout it.

The final result (or insult).

Well, we've got that title, the art, so here's the design. I was switching between black or white for the background, both choices eventually made it.

Final frontcover result

for disribution purposes only (only one name prohibited)

We've got the frontcover, for the backcover I've chosen the same design but as a whole in contrast.

A few choices

Kadinskish smile

A white background with all the information you need. Now, what does it sound like? Soon...
Final backcover result with songtitles and credits

Copy, copy, right!

Routenote, my distribution label (spotify, itunes, deezer,...) is partners with YouTube now. That means, all of my video content will be automatically recognised as a topic. Read about it here

http://routenote.com/blog/routenote-officially-partners-with-youtube-worlds-largest-music-streaming-platform/

So- as enthousiastic as I am to spread the new stuff- yesterday, I uploaded an upcoming promo video for the new album, but that got me in "trouble" with a copyright claim from...ahum, Routenote.
Of course I always upload under my REAL name (who am I anyway?), so they didn't recognize that it was JoosTVD himself!
pfffffff...
Well, after a few mail exchanges, it's all solved now

(Btw, the new promo/teaser (and a few other funny vids) will-hopefully- see the light of day soon, soon!
So why don't you serve yourself another cup of joe and subscribe?)
The JoosTVD topic is here

New album 2014: I Mimic Me

Update!
What time is it? Yes exactly time for a brand new TVD album!
Routenote has approved the album so distribution is on its way.
I'm so excited about the songs!

Now keep your/my fingers crossed..... Still 4 to 6 weeks to go though, but iTunes & Spotify are fast, so check them and tell me!

In the meantime, here are the covers:

Front

About the Title I Mimic Me

Narcistic as hell that title. It sounds fun to me. "I do Lou Reed better than anyone" Lou Reed confessed to a crowd once. Well in my case, when you reach a sudden age (?), you've come full circle. You learn to accept what you've become (pros & negs) on your own level.

So on the frontcover there's a little me, about 10 years old, in a rare state of relaxing, grinning shyly and there's the grown-up old farty me, trying more or less, but fail to mimic the younger me. Mmmm...

Back

As you can see, 13 songs (+ song 14 is the instrumental promo version of song 1) again, just like last time. Yes, I've got lots of more songs in the bag, but these are chosen as the best buy.

Btw, I also got a few funny vids in the making for ya, so...

.... next time:  Teaser "I Mimic Me" 2014

Distribution in progress

The green light is on. That´s quick. Just got the message from Routenote. In a couple of weeks, you can expect the new album on Spotify, iTunes, eMusic, Amazon, Rdio. I hope so. In the meantime I´ll be working on two little, funny Youtubes to support the album. Furthermore, I will put the album on several platforms like Jamendo, Noisetrade and Bandcamp. Spread the word...bla, bla, blah.

I´m happy now or am I?

 Whaaat?

Here´s a link to the distribution label btw,

A new baby

Hai there music lovers! Here's another update. Just finished the mastering & the mixing of the new baby, The Ballooning Brouhaha, my 17th album (9th digital). The most difficult thing to do for me is mastering, but after a lot of working out the last details of the sounds, I'm ready now to deliver. I'm really glad that the working process didn't took that long as the previous album. I guess I got used to the fixed idea of making those big double albums (just like Zappa did), with as much songs as I could fit on them. I always write more, so there's always a melody floating around somewhere on my harddrive. Maybe I'm just obsessed with writing.
This time I've chosen to take just 13 songs that- I think- represent me in the most convincing way thusfar. A really gratifying experience for me. So this afternoon I took the distribution road again, on the digital highway. Routenote will hopefully release this one (my fourth one for them) in a couple of weeks so you can stream it on Spotify. I hope you'll dance, cry, laugh and sing along with it!
If they give it the green light, I'll show you a little promo video. And next, you can expect the covers, the songlist, the process, the guestlist (only one), what can be more on your wishlist? I know something, a balloon!

Delay....

Just got a message from Routenote. There's a slight delay "it may have run into some problems at itunes". Wow, I hope they know what they are doing up there at iTunes. I did not use any foul or disturbing language on the album, as far as I know or did I?
You CAN find me at Amazon btw, uncensored:

Waiting.....

The album is  in the distribution hands of RouteNote, it's in "Pending Moderation". Waiting to be approved so to speak (maybe 20 songs is too much to handle), so it's still not clear when you'll be able to hear it on Spotify for example. Check anyway, you'll never know. Guess I'll have to knock on RouteNote's doors then. But.... this week I'll fill your head with a few (!) teasers from the album. So when it's officially released, I'll come outside..... so patience.

donderdag 9 augustus 2012

Ok, finally finished recording...now buy a christmas tree.

It's difficult for me to stop....but I have to. I'm ready to put these babies of mine out in the open. These past few weeks I've put the final touches on the tracks, listening to the little details over and over again. It was driving me crazy! It took a year, but it was worth it as I demanded it of myself.

So- when- will- the- album- come out?
I've found a new online distribution label: RouteNote. A few months back I tested it on two older albums (Giftshot [2005] and Volumed 10 [2007]) and it worked out fine. The album wil be on Spotify (stream!) and iTunes and other online shops in about two or three weeks. I hope so....
In the meantime I will put out a promovideo on Youtube. In total I've got four songs with each an different accompanying video. I still have to sort them out, so first things first.
And of course, if you´re patient, it will be available on the free online platforums like Jamendo and Bandcamp and finally on this blog. No, you dont have to wait that long. You will be able to sing these songs under the christmas tree. Cozy...

Albumtitle 2012: Art Decoy The Bluebeard Boy

Art?
Strange title?
I like the arty farty sound of it....
Decoy?
Finally, here are the front/ back and innersleeves of the new collection of songs. Still trying to figure out some minor details though (mixing and a little smoothing up my vocals). In the near future I'll tell all the background stories behind them.
If you want to summarize it all: tears and joy, I guess, just like many of us, we go through different moods, from one to the other extreme. I'm just so glad I can express that all through my fingertips. Glad with all the feedback I have received on the music I've spread on all those helpful platforms.
Excited?
Bluebeard?
Boy?
Like a kid I am anyway....I'll spread the stuff in a few months (ha ha) or earlier. Distribution will follow (free platforms, spotify, iTunes, etc and of course along this blog). Tell it to your friends or enemies on facebook! Feedback is always welcome.
Next up: the process

Grab! it's a free soundlibrary...elsewhere...

I like open source. Wiki Leaks has proved in general that manipulation and misinformation of the masses is still going strong. People are not that stupid!
I don't need to know every tweety thing, but if I want to hear something of a favourite artist, I want to feel free to step into any (virtual?) soundlibrary, have it available and if I like it, I'll pay a reasonable price for it. Still, there are so many uncovered treasures to find out, but kept away, because they don't sell. Who decides that? Well, the answer is predictable. Anyway, I 've paid a lot for many mediocre stuff in the past and I won't have to do that anymore. And if I have to pay for it, I want it to be available.
That's why I keep my options open. you can find me on any online musicstores anyway...!
Thanks for the feedback on my last album btw (read those reviews), whoever you are!

Popular? Yeah on Jamendo

The only dutch guy up there on the first page....it's not that important, but......
there must someone who's listening to this goofy stuff, HA!
Well, I'm already busy, goofing again, working with protools on some new sounds. Can't sit still.
So, meanwhile look over there at Jamendo, a lot of different new talents are trying to survive in the same pool. One day we'll all be famous, ha ha!

Reviews from the net

From Jamedo, music platform:

Carybe, Portugal :
You know what?... funk yourself.
25/08/11

Let me tell you... music, is a very serious thing... right?... but, there's nothing in the book that says it can't be fun... or even funny. In fact, I believe that it even benefits a whole lot, when musicians are having fun while doing it. And to those who may be inclined to think that "playing with music" is just a subterfuge, think better... remember, before you can even think about making whatever stunts, the simplest they may appear to be, you have necessarily to learn a lot of other basic stuff... and there are no shortcuts. Sure this album, transpires a lot of fun... but it breathes quality and know how all over. It's... an extended, but overall gratifying... funky based production, leaded by an excellent performer, with a voice full of personality and a full bodied singing, replete of irony and good spirit. The music is quite addictive and sounds generally super well... and if at this point and by any chance, you still have at least, the slightest temptation, of thinking that this funky stuff ain't serious music, then... most probably... you are in a desperate need situation, of being funked... and funked real good.
Communication is, in fact, a complicated thing... words, sometimes, develop such strong roots in some rough ground, that pull out some other possible meanings and applications or even associations, can be a very hard task... so it happens within the world of music, necessarily as a communication vehicle. I'm convinced that, quite often, the most effective way to mark and transmit a serious point of view, is to joke with and about it, for instance.
However, this basically sums it up.
Thanks for the music... and stay well.

It has been a long time since anyone has taken potshots at the events of the world, and all the little things that happen within a persons day. JoosTVD has picked up, somewhat, where Frank Zappa left off. Perhaps not with the music end, but lyrical content is a definate hoot! My favorites are Alice Tea and Tweet. I like the change from past efforts!

I am always sorry for the artists that you can't buy their albums in a store. You can find a lot of albums here which are much better tham some of the albums you can buy.
This album is one of them.
I am really sorry that there is a lack of good taste in this society today.
But keep on making good music. I love it and I am glad that i found jamendo.com
I always find albums or songs that entertain me more than Lady Gaga or the whole mainstream music.

Fine album, fine songs, fine arraments, fine players... Also fine lyrics.
So what's wrong? Nothing, except that the Vanished Dutchman is just here (ok this is a fine place!), and Ricky Martin, Lady Gaga and RWilliams are everywhere.
Thanks again.

In tempi ormai lontani ho studiato Francese.
(and this is granted at least in music, if it seems impossible in the social field. Here there's plenty of fantasy, along with a humor that exudes from your notes.
In days gone by I studied French. The English do not chew on anything and it's a shame, because I imagine that for irony and fantasy texts should keep the same pace of the music)

Very creative work. Components of rhythmic funk and jazz, mix in a very interesting way. The vocal with a humorous twist, coupled with unusual sounds, enjoy the beholder. The movements are nice and well built. Very good.

....is hier das Motto.

Very cool album indeed.

Orson Nietes is an album filled with perkiness and funky peppiness. JoosTVD clearly shows innovative approaches to music and the anarchic madness of this album actually portrays a great cohesive piece of work. It is a wonderfully inventive "popourri" of tongue-in-cheek medleys and a delight to the ears.

(Beautiful music played and sung by an eclectic and versatile artist, who can roam with mastery and confidence between different genres, but always to 'teach the groove!
It 'a music full of pleasant surprises, more enhanced by a beautiful voice ...
