Let Us Hear/Watch A New Tune! (Promo 1)

The song
"Fly Talk" is the first song that kicks off the brand new album "The Fly On The Wall Routine", release 30th april 2019. The first song that kickstarted the process.
The fly on the wall in this song you can often recognize in the way they position themselves. Maybe a bit like a bystander, watcher, observer (me included). But they talk too....and sometimes they break with that stereotype. Here It's about the stressed out famous, introverted one, who just wants out, escape!  The line "the fly on the wall routine" I picked up (combining "routine" with "fly on the wall") reading one of those autobios about the once so rich and famous.

The video
Did it myself again, low budget. That's the way I like it. It's done with a monk's patience though to get it "right". So, No I'm not a professional, but I like it like that!
A lot of rhythmic breaks and pulsing going around in this song, so I put pictures/ lyrics/ coloured effects on the tempo of the beat to support that. It's a lyric video by the way, so you'll be able to sing along. Enjoy!

Fly Talk (Lyrics/Music: JoosTVD)

Roll up that red carpet
And let's get out of here
You know you're playing against type
All you want to do is disappear

So we rolled up our sleeves
And dropped the fly on the wall routine
And we walked a few beats downtown
And shaked our tambourines

I have to talk to you...now!
Don't look surprised I had to call
I have to talk to you
We have to clear the air somehow
Don't want to talk

A trail of clouds in the sky
Is spelling out your name
It feels like ripping off the band-aid
you blow the blues away

This is the first promo of two. The second will be released when the album drops!

Sunday Findings

Hey Folks, here's little visual-in between- post about two different things, although they do/ can relate to eachother. One picture (1) reflects the old way of scribling thoughts on paper, the other (2) reflects the modern way of connecting with the digital highway by clicking and scrolling.

1.The old habit: Lyrical Painting

I do love both ways though. They are both means to the same end.

Picture 1 shows all my latest lyrics of my new album. Free expression of mostly specific or remarkable words and sentences, one-liners that I've  heard.

2.The modern communication: my new Trackball Mouse
Picture 2: I wish you all the best health possible, hope you wish the same for me. This modern way of scrolling is my latest addition to keep my workflow (yes on the musical side of editing) happy!

The shape I'm in...

The energy flow

The title refers to a lyric of one of my new songs: how to express oneself freely these days with all the social media that crawls around ya. The daily routine. Questions. Does it make me feel good or bad? I don't follow easy, you know, don't conform to the hype of the day. I kinda keep up with the news, without taking topics or VIPs even for one second serious. It's still fascinating to know what's the new hype though. I always think about  the words Frank Zappa used to say: "there's a song in this", after watching another stupid, motherf..king asshole making a fool of him/herself on TV. There you have it! Enough topics to write about without pointing the dirty finger directly. Swearing is easy, writing with wit and selfreflecting spirit will get you much further in the end, I dare say. Imagination. I'm not a storyteller though, like a, say Ray Davies. I too observe almost obsessively, but the words that I write on paper are mostly fragmentic stuff. Ironic one-liners. I just need to touch some keys or strings to get the energy flow going. What's the shape I am in? There's a sudden burst of absurd energy that makes me wanna run through the jungle strip-naked, do a John Bonham drumsolo on piano and get away with it. Or scream without making a sound. Or keep silent with an all well-known nod on my face. People gotta move. That's my kind of music man. I want to join the circus...in my mind. Shape it up!

The last lyrics

Guess you can see the labour of love in this. Struggling a bit with words. Hence "f-word". Yes, sometimes it flipps right out of my mouth.
Just a few lyrics and vocal recording to finish and I've got a new album for ya! 2019, here I come again.

Let Us Hear A New Tune!

Here it is then. A new promo for both the eyes and the ears. Not that I'm not a professional video wizzard, but if I've gotta show something I'll do it the DIY way. All you need is dancing shoes and a grooving smile.

What do ya think? To me, this is just a simple, carefree and upbeat, funky tune from a restless guy that loves to dance but shyness holds him back.... Marvin Gaye wrote an irresistable dance song about that (Got To Give It Up) to keep up with the disco rage in 1977.
O, but I loved creating this little dittie.I wrote this very quick with a sort of naive confidence. All it took was a ball of spontanious energy. that you can't buy anywhere.
Well, I'm getting a little stiff maybe in the hips, but don't dare me! I'm not trying to grow up, that's all. Not now! Love life all over again.
Dancing freely can surely help to reduce the age problem. Stay a kid. Love the rhythm of life. So many ways to do it!

Promo "Not Now" from the brand new 2018 album "Just Say KNOW"

Lyrics/ Music (JoosTVD)

Not Now

One day I'll be a big boy
But not now, not now!
I want to have fun
With my new toy

Just let me move
Move me to the rhythm of your life

One day I'll get my act together
But not now, not now!
I never fellt better

Just let me move
Move me to the rhythm of your life

Lyrics are little bastards

Hai there autumn people!

No, I haven't forget you, I just kept myself busy with the works. I've got 8 completed songs in the can, all more or less ready for the mixdown. I've payed a lot of attention to my vocals, especially the nuances, the precise pronunciation of the vowels. And harmonising. Well, we've got autotune for that? I only use it for effect. Very little. Jacob Collier does a great thing with autotune harmonising, but in the end it's all just a trick. Keep it real boy, your voice is great on itself.
So many different choices to make with all different styles of music. And always the love for funky tracks with a latin vibe got me in an intense mood. As I know my capabilities more, I'm having a lot of fun with singing now. I sweat like a pig sometimes, but that's just a bold expression for the way I work. Intensity. Ok, it was a hot summer.
Ah, yes. Those magic words that fit the melody. Always a challenge to find them. Sometimes they just fall out from my mouth like easy snow. It's a hard and underestimated work though, just look at the picture:

My latest, yet unfinished lyric. Mark the crossed-out words
Where (?) do they (?) all come from?
I've read in one of Todd Rundgren's biographies, that he mostly come up with the words, sing all the harmonies and record them just.at the last moment. I guess a little self imposed pressure has helped me out a lot, but when your mindset is not there, better let the flow come back to you another fresh time.
I use a bit of Todd and David Byrne's method he first used at the "Remain In Light" sessions. He often sings nonsense vowels (oo, aa eee, oe, hiii) at first in a spontanious way and writes lyrics on those vowels.
Reminds me of the action painting of Pollock where you just let it all out, dripping paint from your hands. In blues, when one is singing, it's common to just let it out, even repeat the sentence just to understate or confirm an emotion. It's only natural. Bluespower.

2015: what am I here for and what can you do?

Hey, it's 2015 and here we are again: I'm in the last stages of a new TVD album. Slowly, but with the unavoidable bursts of energy (electricity!) and all the practising experiences I've endured, it is all working out smoothly.

Electric Dutchman
One thing I can't do, is to force this music and...the words.. Got one lyric about a past lovestory I can't finish. Yes, she broke my heart. Damn. But I got over it or did I(?), so the obvious, but paradoxal title "But Do I Miss You" came up. The answer? Two ways: I don't miss you at all, I miss you so bad. Dilemma. Well, that became the refrain. But for the rest it's... guess It's all about the right combination of words that have to gel together and for now they are just too cheesy! In the past I used my personal experiences as lyrics, but I try to make them less navelstaring and more "universal". That's where my goal lays here. Love and cheese, aaargh. Bold love then?
What can you do? (Throw money!) Maybe you can send me some alternative words that can give this story a litle more edge.
Really love to experiment with the homestudio though. It's just an addition to the finishing touch, like a simple palette, but with a wide range of colours to choose from if you mix them.

In the following months you can expect a few more posts, updates, so stand by me. BTW, what time is it?
Have a nice day, night or evening folks!
