I was not planning to make another promo as I'm a musician first. but then... I stumbled on some instagram effects to enhance your selfies! Well that did the trick and as you can see, it's all over this video. I know, I'm aware that I'm getting old and ugly, so in the future I will not overdo this anymore.
I've just had a lot of fun writing, playing and recording this upbeat track "City Of The Mirrorballs" that I could not resist producing a promo around it. I even went so far as to use a frame for the front and back cover for the new album, Sand In My Shoes.
Hope you like it, don't get lost in the trance of the mirrorball!
While waiting for the new album to arrive I stumbled on this...
An oldie from 2008 (album 'Hey Jose'). Tik Tok is very popular these days, all kind of crazy stuff happening when you allow yourself to be filmed... by yourself. Well, the word 'fat' is often literally used in these clips though, it was only meant to emphasize the money part, well...
I'm back, coming up from the deep with Sand In My Shoes, the title of my new album, will arrive 16th july 2022. My 18th digitally released by AMAdea music.
I'm, of course, very happy with it. 12 melodic and funky songs in various styles, moods and rhythms, it will be introduced by a promo video that will show you exactly what I've just said.... patience!
Surprise, surprise! Another lovely review from this dutch music website, Timpaan Muziek. Very Constructive views on the songs. They were very critical of the 2020 album "Doesn't Ring A Bell", but maybe it helped creating better songs. Who knows?! Well thanks again!
ouderwets onderliggende frustraties eruit gegooid.
The fly on the wall routine weer teruggevonden.
World of make believe en World of disbelieve
In English:
Also this year there is a new JoosTVD, Suit yourself. He also uses his recognizable style on this album. He mixes jazz, rock, pop and Latin American influences into a unique style. The humor keeps the many virtuoso riffs in balance.
JoosYVD himself says about the creation of this album: “I threw out old-fashioned underlying frustrations. That gave the necessary intensity to the songs. I was inspired by a lot of collected, random one-liner word fields, with which I could color melodies quite spontaneously.”
On Suit yourself he has rediscovered the form of The fly on the wall routine. On the title song Suit yourself, JoosTVD shows that he bounces in all directions. The horn sounds that come out of the keyboard are nice. The bass guitar with many syncopes plays a leading role in the accompaniment. Virtuoso, tight production sometimes busy because of the many layers together make a slick sound.
The buzz has an infectious drive. World of make believe and World of disbelieve together make a remarkable diptych. While the former is the best track on the album, the latter seems to make fun of it. Suit yourself and Suit myself have the same kind of relationship with each other.
JoosTVD presents an excellent album to fans of his music this year.
Hai there! I love this review from Marino Serdons from Keys & Chords.
This is his 4th time reviewing my stuff. Well thank You!
Once again JoosTVD with a funky album that entertains en inspires at the same time.

In English:
Sound artist JoosTVD recently threw a new creation on the internet. Suit Yourself lets us enjoy a mix of styles; from funk over R&B to jazz. When you hear Joost The Vanished Dutchman for the first time, you will be surprised. Richly layered compositions that go completely against the grain in times of minimalism. There is always some cheerfulness in the songs (also a rarity). Simplicity and mainstream are (fortunately) not in his dictionary. Just like Frank Zappa back then, creativity knows no bounds. But where Frank sometimes went overboard on whether he dared to compose symphonic works, multi-instrumentalist JoosTVD always delivers structured and comprehensible work (despite strange jumps). The funky grooves and the humorous (almost theatrical) finds are now part of the Dutchman's trademark. That makes the successor of 'Just Say Know' a piece of cake for the fans and for the musical directors. Once again JoosTVD with a funky album that entertains and inspires at the same time. Yes, in Homecookingshare that is. Great with a french twist! I'm a groover, seducing you all...
You can buy it of course, I've been sent a copy of the reviews corner. You can read it here online
JoosTVD Suit Yourself Groove
(Translation from french to english):
JoosTVD is the very definition of a groovemaker. The Dutch artist has the physical assets, already, with a voice of groove crooner. And then he has the particularity to be able to bring back all to his wide style of predilection. From Latin ambiances to guitar solos, everything he touches seems to have funk in it. Then on the duration of an album, obviously, he threads like pearls of the pieces ready to make sway the most insensitive. JoosTVD is a jack-of-all-trades without limits, who knows how to provoke variations of rhythms, in his tracks and in the tempo of the album, as if he could take possession of our bodies and souls, the time of the twelve tracks of "Suit Yourself", to guide us towards a funky trance. Impossible to refuse him that, it would be a shame to deprive ourselves.

De verraderlijk lome deiner World Of Disbelieve.

JoosTVD may also be known as “Joost De Verdwenen Nederlander” and is actually called Joost van Dinther. He has decided to release an album every year with his “slaps(t)ick humor” and a mixture of pop, jazz, funk. Latin and rhythm \u0026 blues.
His new musical adventure was recorded in his small Kitchensink Studio in Utrecht. Joos manages to let you listen breathlessly from the beginning to the end of the album.
The album opens with the “crooked” Latin of Know No Better Way in which warm samba sounds go hand in hand with idiosyncratic sounds reminiscent of Yello and the Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Joos then switches to the languid heaving electrofunk in Meet In The Middle. A song with the warm crooning vocals of Joos and of course the necessary idiosyncrasy, this time interspersed with Todd Rundgren influences.
The Buzz is an airy swinging song that is reminiscent of the Gruppo Sportivo side branch the Buddy Odor Stop but just as easily to the jazzy sounds of a Ben Sidran or Mose Allison. And Joos also rips through it with an electric guitar solo. The Cat Gang sweltering on with yet another “crooked” samba sounds in which Steely Dan is present this time.
Tapdancing Liar is a kind of “hopple-jump funk”, which sounds like Ben Sidran has the funky hiccups. Look at this tap dancing!
The blues pops up in World Of Make Believe that bluesy sounds like G. Love but with the JoosTVD quirkiness, which means that Joos again sprinkles with jazzy and samba sounds.
The lightly swinging Suit Yourself automatically makes you happy. If only because of that Herb Alpert tijuana trumpet! Suit Myself is very funky, angularly grooving and with a languid samba feeling.
King Without Token tingles, is funky, and mixes Steely Dan, Beck and lo-fi. What do you get when you mix Van Dyke Parks, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan? The treacherous languid deiner World Of Disbelieve.
The intimate heaving Wise Men then reminds us of Fay Lovsky and Joos concludes the adventure with the funky fusion of Danser Ou Changez.
After this magnificent seventh album by JoosTVD look I'm already looking forward to part 18!
On da radio. Always excitement. Yesterday evening between 21-23 O'clock, but you can still listen back to the bluesy sounds of "Bluestown Radio"- after the son of Bobby Bland, Rodd, by the way- HEREfor a whole week. They chose 'Wise Men' and at first I thought "that ain't no blues!", but it fitted somehow. I always wonder how songs work on the radio, because in my experience, if you isolate a track, it always comes out different. The same goes for movies and soundtracks. Do they stand on their own? Well often, mostly not.
“DIY?”
I don’t see myself as an excellent player that has to perform to show his chops. I do play and figure out songs of other composers once in a while, for educational purposes only. I have learned to play a few instruments (started out as that muppet Animal drummer), just enough to make records! I’m not a professional sound engineer, but I’ve learned along the way. Do It Yourself. That’s my kick. Yes, i 've had a few piano lessons and I had some voice training, singing opera too, but.
To put my own creations on “tape”. Play and push record. I already started recording my own songs around 1980…playing (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Learned a whole lot about self-reflection in the meantime. Produced around 43 cassettes (remember it was the analog age!) of work in progress.
Although I like performing/ entertaining and I did play in a few bands
(between 1980-1995), more and more I became aware of my real strengths:
songwriting and shape a song into a complete version as I hear it in my
head. It’s “hard” work though. Talent is not enough. You can’t push it,
it will “push” you! It’s in the back of my head all the time. 24/7.
Don’t worry, I do sleep and I like to vanish from time to time.

Somebody tore my world apart and put the pieces back the wrong way'
A World Of Make Believe was basically done with the help of an acoustic
guitar and a slow, but urging drumloop with a sort of hiss in its mix.
Lyrically I had the word fake in my mind, as I regularly have lately,
when I read the news. Make believe. Create your own reality or bubble
and watch what happens to the sheep when you spread the word. A sinister
and hypnotic tone of voice. You can hear that in the way I sing, I even
almost rap or narrate the words. The chorus is more melodic with a latin
feel around it for some contrasting relieve.
Gil Scott-Heron tapping on my shoulder
A lyric 'promo' video. One of 12 brand new songs from the album 'Suit Yourself out 30-07-2021
...and to be heard. So I've finally came up with a new batch of songs. Well, I never thought I'd make an another album, but here we are again.
This is the first of twelve songs, this one slowly building up, crawling under your skin, I hope. I've shared it with soundcloud and the online magazine Homecooking Share.
Process.

Yes it's time to get myself together...or not. I've been recording again, a lot of ideas fell into place so it's been fun and I guess I can come up with a new album next year, but.... it's too predictable now. Yes, I can look back at this great body of work now and be proud, but something is missing... I've been doing that for so many years now, it has become a habit, maybe a nice routine. The latest reviews have giving me exactly the kick in that direction. Break with the mold. Every song has been worth releasing, so no regrets in that department. I just want to experiment, explore more with ideas so I need time and space to do that. I'm gonna break with the "releasing things" to the public every year. Quality comes first.
Will I ever release a song again, you wonder? Only when I'm perfectly and naturally okay with it, but I'm too addicted to songwriting, recording, playing singing to give it all up. Hey TVD, let's not get too serious, nothing is broken. Let's have fun again. I've got the toys and the playground!
Motivation is the key, I can't do it without love.
Tat's a song from the last album. I'm profetic I guess!
This
song is about love...without feeling it exactly. Written in a burst of
energy on acoustic guitar, I found a fitting melody on the piano and
the rest followed.
Just let it flow..... Spotify Video
Everybody, thanks for your support. I'm gonna vanish again, but I'll be back.
I Forgot about this! I don't like compilation in general, but this one... well, I had the chance to put together a few favourite songs and release it. Et voila! On apple music
Hey!
I do ring a bell once in a while... 12 times!
I didn't expect to do an album like this again, as I've put out a lot of those I guess, but.... I couldn't help myself. I'm writing "all of the time". Some sort of positive energy creeps in.
I had a lot of fun writing again in a more traditional way (on guitar or on piano). Tried to keep things upbeat, melodic, groovy. You can hear that in the first 6 songs. Then it gets a bit serious, deep, slow, but not that you fall asleep. Did ya? Noooo..
01.The Heavy Donut Discount Blues
Well this started the whole process all over again! I thought I lost my muze, but the melodies and the upbeat, bluesy chord progression took me by surprise, it's all very infectious. A lot happening here. I was inspired to challenge myself here. A bit classical (intro), latinesque and poppy. A quick write on guitar then! About donuts...
02.Flower Power Festival
I was on a roll as this song continued the melodic side I seem the pursue. Fun to do. Just some chords on guitar and melody (written on piano).
03.When U Go Rong
Still in the upbeat mode, this latinesque number had me by the balls, as I had to push the energy factor up high. All fun to do. Can't go rong...
04.Do It Without Love
A simple, easy to the ears, melody, sometimes does the trick. I am proud of this one, because it only took a symbolic 5 minutes to write. Well... the arrangements, that's a whole different story...!
10cc's "I'm not in Love" comes to mind i guess, hence the title: anti-love song.
05.Smart
This is one of the finest, compact grooves I've made thus far. I've worked hard all of these years to get to this. It all began to float when I had the melody to the chorus: "Do you wipe your ass before You Shit?" across that slapping bass.
I had an enormous kick doing this. Without a wipe!
06.And Again
Bossa nova spirit. Something I've grown up with, basically written on guitar. Melodicwise I like this a lot.
07.Midnight Cowgirl
Instrumental, started off on piano. Relaxing mood used as a contrast for the first energetic songs. Title? One of my favourite scores is "Midnight Cowboy".
08.Cold
Introspective acoustic song. Only guitar and voice, a few piano motives. The less instruments I use, the more difficult I seem to have with the vocal performance. The subtilities, details are getting noticed. A challenge for the next record?
09.Get Your Facts Straight
Jazzy, funky, sophisticated stuff always comes my way. I still listen a lot to the seventies groove I guess. Steely Dan, Ned Doheny comes to mind. Today a band like Young Gun Silver Fox seems to draw from the same inspiration, all retro blue-eyed soul, but very infectious.
10.U Save Lives
Slow shuffle, a bit darker than the rest. I had this melody creeping around the groove. I saved my life.
11.To An Inchworm
Instrumental, melodic tribute to Danny Kaye, dreamlike like the song "Inchworm" from his movie Hans Christian Andersen".
12.Over My Very Dead Like
Ragtime, slapstick? Just an antidote to all the heavy stuffWell in a funny way, I've use that phrase a few times on ocasion. And Yes, I don't need or like Facebooks likes!
