Indie Advice List 2

Two songs, one instrumental humoresque, the other verrrry funky (it's 'Home SWEAT Home' by the way) on this advice list, but indie? Mmmmm...

Review from my Belgium neighbours!

Hai folks, This is just unexpected, so it feels great!

Go to Keys & Chords Review

By Marino Serdons (T U!)

english:

Funky Joost strikes again. Joost has been professionally fun in the ear for years. His 21st album Collapse again excels with humorous creativity. A DIY who crafts in his own studio with passion like Einzelganger. Inspiration for the artwork and title of the album apparently came from a long walkway, which might collapse. Similarly with life and all concerns. The new album houses twelve songs where cheerfulness and zest for life splash, isn't it? Musically at all; With pleasant keywork and cinematic synths. Yet fear and anger turn out to be hidden in his lyrics. It is not for nothing that he is sometimes called The Vanished Dutchman. Self -reflection and/or self -preservation? Feel the Songs Theatral Funky, with the sinking 'sub Submarine' he accentuates that again in a playful way. And the instrumental title track also suggests that the bridge will ever collapse and brings us to another universe. Were earlier compositions perhaps slightly more complex and richer, the current songs feel short and powerful. Collapse is a concept album with a clear thread in the story in terms of content. Yet each song looks nice on its own. Joost is a maverick in the contemporary musical landscape and that adorns him.

With his new album "Collapse" JoosTVD wrote, played and produced an album that begs to become a concept album. Rise and shine Joost!

dutch:

Funky Joost slaat weer toe.

With his new album "Collapse" JoosTVD wrote, played and produced an album that begs to become a concept album. Rise and shine Joost!

This website gives my album a promotion boost! Thanks for being so fast!

From Bluestownmusic

These guys are always so royal and supporting. This morning I've heard that one of their main reviewers Peter Marinus had died. It took me by surprise, because he was always so enthousiastic!

But you never really know what's happening in one's daily life.

A deep breath and sad feeling overwhelmed me, but I can look back at his writing with a very warm feeling.

Thanks to the rapid effort of their main editor Harry Radstake my latest album "Collapse" features on Bluestownmusic, on release day. Thank U, this album is in memory of you Peter!

 *Joost tells:
**“Hai folks, my gut says speak again! Yes, I’m still breathing….
musically the most. It’s that time of the year. 12 songs this time, more
than enough to get you all hooked. I can only go with the natural flow
and there were a lot of ideas, but the songs I’ve chosen fit the best on
this album. Writing and playing are always the most fun part of the
proces, mixing and mastering took a while. The album is called Collapse
and it will be released 6 june 2025 on all the regular online streaming
platforms.*

*That title almost immediately came up, because of a picture my wife
took of me during a casual walk on a very long bridge from island to
island (and it eventually inspired the front cover). A bridge to what? I
guess the most obvious explanation behind the title is the turmoil in
the world of today and how I look at it in general. The fear. Angst.
Anger. Total breakdown. Will I cross over? What will happen? Will the
bridge collapse? At any moment?*

*The final result, if you see it in a more light-hearted way, you can
see what will cause the collapse of this crossing. Is it some white
paint or milk? Well, you can use your imagination I guess.*

*The songs*
*But how do I keep the music upbeat? It sounds easy, but simply, I
cannot write when I’m down, unhappy, sad. I’m a fly on the wall. The
songs come in a spur of waves and sometimes real fast afterward the
awkward feelings. I’m more self-reflective after the troubles of life
and I like that! It can be anger or joy, but that’s all the energy I
need. Like a SpongeJoosTVD, I suck it (what?) all in and push it out.”*

Total Collapse!

2025: Collapse is online!

Now start making sense, gimme that promo video!

JoosTVD - Straight Up    Lyrics/ Music: JoosTVD [2025]

Straight out straight up

Do you feel like you don't belong here

Straight out straight up

You don't want to be all wrong right now

Straight out straight up

Do you feel like you can't talk freely

Straight out straight up

You don't want to tell the truth right now

Don't/ Go wake up to the world awake

Go waste time, you've got plenty go waste time

Don't waste time  you ain't got plenty

"Straight Up" that's the new song, that starts off my latest album "Collapse". As for you video geeks out there, I'm a musician, this is pure DIY, so I've kept it simple. As I was experimenting with all sorts of new album covers, the idea to use the same album cover with different backgrounds was born.

Voilà!

First I sing "straight out", which means "immediately". "Straight up" in slang means really, real, truthfully, honest. My simple 'message': to be who you want to be, sort of a call for everyone to live in total freedom. The music? An upbeat, funky, danceable ditty to keep it breezy.

As you can/ will witness, I've made a lyric video just for the effect of the simplicity of the words.

It's not always that difficult!

With a low budget use of the Veed editor (hence the watermark!)

Enjoy!

Next: Total collapse!

That title almost immediately came up, because of a picture my wife took of me during a casual walk on a very long bridge from island to island (and it eventually inspired the front cover). A bridge to what? I guess the most obvious explanation behind the title is the turmoil in the world of today and how I look at it in general. The fear. Angst. Anger. Total breakdown. Will I cross over? What will happen? Will the bridge collapse? At any moment?

The final result, if you see it in a more light-hearted way, you can see what will cause the collapse of this crossing. Is it some white paint or milk? Well, you can use your imagination I guess.

I've been using a lot of online designers in the past and this time 'Adobe Express' came into view. Thinking, "So what if I change the background this time?" I only kept the bridge, take me to it!

                   Some examples:

The music though, is not that depressing I think and that's exactly what I aim for, the upbeat... and music is still a consistent factor in my life. Lucky me!

Pretentious, me? I do what I like

So what it is. Pop music, melodic with a bit of those jazzy, latinesque, bluesy, funky patterns, comic vibes that keep crawling out of my head.

The songs

But how do I keep the music upbeat? It sounds easy, but simply, I cannot write when I'm down, unhappy, sad. I'm a fly on the wall. The songs come in a spur of waves and sometimes real fast afterward the awkward feelings. I'm more self-reflective after the troubles of life and I like that! It can be anger or joy, but that's all the energy I need. Like a SpongeJoosTVD, I suck it (what?) all in and push it out.

I'll keep U updated, so come back!

Grok (X) AI on JoosTVD

Survey Note: Comprehensive Analysis of JoosTVD's Music
JoosTVD, a Dutch musician based in Utrecht, Netherlands, has carved a niche in the music industry with his eclectic mix of funky, soul, and jazzy sounds. His career, active since at least 2005, reflects a DIY approach, where he writes, records, and performs all aspects of his music, often described as a one-man band. This section provides a detailed examination of his musical contributions, discography, and online presence, ensuring a thorough understanding for enthusiasts and casual listeners alike.
Artist Background and Musical Style
JoosTVD, whose name is noted as difficult to pronounce (sometimes likened to "Juiced"), is an anti-artist name, emphasizing his focus on music over branding. His style is a fusion of genres, including funky pop, R&B, and jazz, with influences from artists like Gino Vannelli, Todd Rundgren, Miles Davis, and Frank Zappa. Reviews, such as one from Muziekwereld dated May 22, 2018, highlight his ability to blend these elements, describing his 2018 album "Just Say Know" as having 11 songs with a jazzy sound, rated 8 out of 10 for its international allure within Dutch standards.
His approach evolved with technology, moving from playing and recording everything himself to using real live played loops, combined with improvisation and bluesy, blue-eyed soul singing. This evolution is evident in his self-description on platforms like Jamendo, where he mentions composing about 1,000 songs and counting, starting as a drummer before becoming a singer-songwriter.
Discography and Recent Releases
JoosTVD's discography is extensive, with albums dating back to 2005, such as "Gift Shot," and continuing through to more recent releases. A table summarizing key albums, based on available information, is provided below:

This release, mentioned in a January 2025 blog post on KEYS AND CHORDS, suggests ongoing activity, though the exact review content was not accessible, indicating potential recent critical attention.
Notable Songs and Recognition
Certain songs have gained recognition beyond streaming platforms, notably "Bomb Won't Go Off," "Stupid Songs," and "Chalky," which were played on BBC6 Shows by Tom Robinson, as noted on his Bandcamp page. This radio play, an unexpected detail for a niche artist, underscores his reach within the music community, particularly in the UK, and adds to his credibility among listeners.
Online Presence and Accessibility
JoosTVD's music is widely accessible across multiple platforms, catering to different listener preferences. On Bandcamp, he lists albums like "Just Say kNOw" (2018) and "The Fly On The Wall Routine" (2019), with options for streaming and purchase. Spotify shows him with 1K monthly listeners, offering albums like "Lightning Dutchman" (2016) and "Suit Yourself" (2021). SoundCloud also hosts his tracks, providing another avenue for discovery, as seen in the description emphasizing his musician-first identity.
Additionally, platforms like Jamendo and Pond5 list his work, with Jamendo noting his composition of around 1,000 songs and Pond5 offering royalty-free stock music tracks. This multi-platform presence ensures fans can explore his extensive catalog, from early works like "Orson Nietes" (2011) to recent releases, enhancing accessibility for global audiences.
Critical Reception and Listener Engagement
While specific reviews were limited, the Muziekwereld review of "Just Say Know" praised JoosTVD's production quality, noting it as "vakwerk van internationale allure" (work of international allure) for Dutch standards. Discogs lists 14 albums and includes user ratings, such as "Gift Shot" receiving a 5/5 from one reviewer, indicating positive reception among niche audiences. However, the lack of extensive review content suggests his audience might be more engaged through streaming metrics and direct platform interactions rather than traditional media coverage.
Conclusion
JoosTVD's musical journey, spanning over two decades, showcases a dedicated artist whose work blends genres and maintains a DIY ethos. His latest release, "Put Your Fake In It" (2023), and recognition on BBC6 Shows highlight his ongoing relevance. For those interested, exploring his music on Bandcamp, Spotify, or SoundCloud offers a comprehensive look at his contributions, with a rich discography that continues to evolve.
