Lovely Review from Belgium!

Hai there! I love this review from Marino Serdons from Keys & Chords

This is his 4th time reviewing my stuff. Well thank You!

Once again JoosTVD with a funky album that entertains en inspires at the same time.

In English:

Sound artist JoosTVD recently threw a new creation on the internet. Suit Yourself lets us enjoy a mix of styles; from funk over R&B to jazz. When you hear Joost The Vanished Dutchman for the first time, you will be surprised. Richly layered compositions that go completely against the grain in times of minimalism. There is always some cheerfulness in the songs (also a rarity). Simplicity and mainstream are (fortunately) not in his dictionary. Just like Frank Zappa back then, creativity knows no bounds. But where Frank sometimes went overboard on whether he dared to compose symphonic works, multi-instrumentalist JoosTVD always delivers structured and comprehensible work (despite strange jumps). The funky grooves and the humorous (almost theatrical) finds are now part of the Dutchman's trademark. That makes the successor of 'Just Say Know' a piece of cake for the fans and for the musical directors.
Once again JoosTVD with a funky album that entertains and inspires at the same time.

Review in French Magazine!

Yes, in Homecookingshare that is. Great with a french twist! I'm a groover, seducing you all...

You can buy it of course, I've been sent a copy of the reviews corner. You can read it here online

JoosTVD
Suit Yourself

Groove

(Translation from french to english):

JoosTVD is the very definition of a
groovemaker. The Dutch artist has the
physical assets, already, with a voice of
groove crooner. And then he has the
particularity to be able to bring back all to
his wide style of predilection. From Latin
ambiances to guitar solos, everything he
touches seems to have funk in it. Then on
the duration of an album, obviously, he
threads like pearls of the pieces ready to
make sway the most insensitive. JoosTVD
is a jack-of-all-trades without limits, who
knows how to provoke variations of
rhythms, in his tracks and in the tempo of
the album, as if he could take possession of
our bodies and souls, the time of the
twelve tracks of "Suit Yourself", to guide
us towards a funky trance. Impossible to
refuse him that, it would be a shame to
deprive ourselves.

(Vertaling van frans naar nederlands):
JoosTVD is de definitie van een
groovemaker.

Magnificent Review in Bluestown Music!

The excitement of reading this review got my knees shaking! Thanks Peter and Harry!

Review in Bluestown Music

Dutch:

JoosTVD – Suit Yourself
Format: CD – Digital / Label: Independent
Release: 2021
Tekst: Peter Marinus

De verraderlijk lome deiner World Of Disbelieve.

JoosTVD may also be known as “Joost De Verdwenen Nederlander” and is actually called Joost van Dinther. He has decided to release an album every year with his “slaps(t)ick humor” and a mixture of pop, jazz, funk. Latin and rhythm \u0026 blues.

His new musical adventure was recorded in his small Kitchensink Studio in Utrecht. Joos manages to let you listen breathlessly from the beginning to the end of the album.

The album opens with the “crooked” Latin of Know No Better Way in which warm samba sounds go hand in hand with idiosyncratic sounds reminiscent of Yello and the Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Joos then switches to the languid heaving electrofunk in Meet In The Middle. A song with the warm crooning vocals of Joos and of course the necessary idiosyncrasy, this time interspersed with Todd Rundgren influences.

The Buzz is an airy swinging song that is reminiscent of the Gruppo Sportivo side branch the Buddy Odor Stop but just as easily to the jazzy sounds of a Ben Sidran or Mose Allison. And Joos also rips through it with an electric guitar solo. The Cat Gang sweltering on with yet another “crooked” samba sounds in which Steely Dan is present this time.

Tapdancing Liar is a kind of “hopple-jump funk”, which sounds like Ben Sidran has the funky hiccups. Look at this tap dancing!

The blues pops up in World Of Make Believe that bluesy sounds like G. Love but with the JoosTVD quirkiness, which means that Joos again sprinkles with jazzy and samba sounds.

The lightly swinging Suit Yourself automatically makes you happy. If only because of that Herb Alpert tijuana trumpet! Suit Myself is very funky, angularly grooving and with a languid samba feeling.

King Without Token tingles, is funky, and mixes Steely Dan, Beck and lo-fi. What do you get when you mix Van Dyke Parks, Todd Rundgren and Steely Dan? The treacherous languid deiner World Of Disbelieve.

The intimate heaving Wise Men then reminds us of Fay Lovsky and Joos concludes the adventure with the funky fusion of Danser Ou Changez.

After this magnificent seventh album by JoosTVD look I'm already looking forward to part 18!

Wise Men

On da radio. Always excitement. Yesterday evening between 21-23 O'clock, but you can still listen back to the bluesy sounds of "Bluestown Radio"- after the son of Bobby Bland, Rodd, by the way- HERE for a whole week. They chose 'Wise Men' and at first I thought "that ain't no blues!", but it fitted somehow. I always wonder how songs work on the radio, because in my experience, if you isolate a track, it always comes out different. The same goes for movies and soundtracks. Do they stand on their own? Well often, mostly not.

Thanks Harry from Bluestownmusic + radio,

Here's 'Wise Men' isolated:

Once and how it started...

“DIY?” I don’t see myself as an excellent player that has to perform to show his chops. I do play and figure out songs of other composers once in a while, for educational purposes only. I have learned to play a few instruments (started out as that muppet Animal drummer), just enough to make records! I’m not a professional sound engineer, but I’ve learned along the way. Do It Yourself. That’s my kick. Yes, i 've had a few piano lessons and I had some voice training, singing opera too, but.

To put my own creations on “tape”. Play and push record. I already started recording my own songs around 1980…playing (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, vocals). Learned a whole lot about self-reflection in the meantime. Produced around 43 cassettes (remember it was the analog age!) of work in progress.

Although I like performing/ entertaining and I did play in a few bands (between 1980-1995), more and more I became aware of my real strengths: songwriting and shape a song into a complete version as I hear it in my head. It’s “hard” work though. Talent is not enough. You can’t push it, it will “push” you! It’s in the back of my head all the time. 24/7. Don’t worry, I do sleep and I like to vanish from time to time.

Let's watch this!

                                     wORLD oF mAKE bELIEVE

'Somebody tore my world apart and put it back together

Somebody tore my world apart and put the pieces back the wrong way'

A World Of Make Believe was basically done with the help of an acoustic guitar and a slow, but urging drumloop with a sort of hiss in its mix. Lyrically I had the word fake in my mind, as I regularly have lately, when I read the news. Make believe. Create your own reality or bubble and watch what happens to the sheep when you spread the word. A sinister and hypnotic tone of voice. You can hear that in the way I sing, I even almost rap or narrate the words. The chorus is more melodic with a latin feel around it for some contrasting relieve.

A new song that has to be shared to be believed....

...and to be heard. So I've finally came up with a new batch of songs. Well, I never thought I'd make an another album, but here we are again.

This is the first of twelve songs, this one slowly building up, crawling under your skin, I hope. I've shared it with soundcloud and the online magazine Homecooking Share.

Process.
